Grand Theft Auto VI is 16 days from launch. Rockstar’s official page still says November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything else floating around right now needs a second look, because this is the stretch where rumors get repeated until they sound like facts.
So let’s split it up: what you can trust, what’s only reported, and what could still change before launch day.
What Rockstar has actually confirmed
The two facts that matter most come straight from Rockstar’s own page: the date and the platforms. That page also marks PS5 as the platform the game “plays best on,” which is a small line that console fans are going to argue about for the next two weeks.
There’s no PS4 or Xbox One version. And if you’re on PC, there’s still no official word. Tech Insider’s confirmed-versus-rumor scorecard lists no PC announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two.
The date has also survived a lot of doubt. GTA 6 has slipped twice already, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick backed November 19 in the company’s earnings report back in May, as TechRadar reported. Rockstar then restated it in a trailer on October 15, according to the same Tech Insider scorecard.
Reported, but not officially nailed down
These details come from retailer listings, store data or secondary reports. They may well turn out right, but treat them as reported rather than announced by Rockstar:
- Price: $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate in the US, per roundups cited by Tech Insider. Check your local store before you budget around it.
- Preload: listings point to November 12 at local midnight, but the exact timing has also been described as unconfirmed.
- Pre-order bonus: a Vintage Vice City Pack has been listed, with its contents not spelled out.
The rumors you should not treat as fact
This is the list to keep handy the next time a viral post shows up on your feed. All of these are unconfirmed, according to the same scorecard:
- A PC version in Q1 2027. GamesBeat reported it on October 13, citing four anonymous sources. Rockstar didn’t comment.
- A 210 GB PS5 install. It’s traced to store data picked up by third-party sites. Neither Rockstar nor Sony has confirmed it.
- Physical editions with a download code instead of a disc. Reported, not announced.
- A November 18 review embargo. This one comes from a leak.
- A map about twice the size of GTA V and roughly 600,000 animations. Big numbers, but no on-record Rockstar statement backs them, so don’t quote them as settled.
Two more claims have been pushed back on. Xbox denied a reported cloud streaming exclusive on October 7. Rockstar also disputed a reported budget of more than $1.5 billion, though it didn’t publish a figure of its own.
Why the leaks still sting at Rockstar
The most human part of this run-up came from inside the studio. Rockstar co-head of development Aaron Garbut spoke about the 2022 leak of unfinished footage in a Bloomberg feature, as summarized by Tech Edition, and called it “really weirdly invasive.”
Rockstar’s head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, tied that security pressure to how staff work. Her line: “I think if we did not have a game that people wanted to steal as much, maybe it would be an easier conversation.”
My take: that’s worth remembering before you click on the next gameplay clip. Fresh snippets have kept appearing this year, and a 25-minute clip reportedly circulated on October 8, though Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that footage. If you’ve been following this saga since the start, our older piece on the GTA 6 leaker shows how long this has been hanging over the game, and our first look at what we knew in 2023 shows how far the conversation has moved.
What this means if you’re planning to play on day one
Honestly, the plan is simple. Make sure you own a PS5 or a Series X|S, keep some storage free, and don’t delete half your library over a rumored install size until the real number shows up on your console’s store page.
If you’re a PC player, I wouldn’t wait around for news this month. Nothing official exists, and even the report that does exist points to 2027. PC players should also expect to dodge a lot of spoilers for a while.
What to watch next
The next date on the calendar is November 9. Take-Two reports its fiscal second-quarter results after the US market closes, with a call at 4:30 p.m. Eastern, according to GTA BOOM. It’s the company’s last earnings call before launch, so any change to the date would be big news, and a plain reaffirmation is the most likely outcome in my view.
After that, watch November 12 for preload information on your store page. Then it’s the final week, and the only source that really counts is the game itself.
