Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most successful debuts in the series’ history, and therefore in video games, given the vast popularity of COD, but this has inevitably led to gamers requesting different balances and “solutions.” According to the number of requests visible on developer Infinity Ward’s social media profiles and on subreddits, aim assist has been one of the most frequently held grievances among gamers.
It appears to be broken (via GamesRadar). The help feature aims to equalize the playing field between console and PC gamers. Many Modern Warfare 2 enthusiasts, however, believe that the aim assist is overpowering and that its effectiveness should be lessened so that crossplay servers are more fair and equal. However, not everyone agrees, since some believe the aiming aid isn’t as powerful as others claim.
Aim help is frequently used in console games for shooters or games with shooting components (such as Red Dead Redemption 2), as controlling the aim with a console controller is typically less precise than using the WASD keys and mouse of a PC setup. However, as previously said, this auto-help varies significantly from game to game and is frequently tweakable in settings and under different difficulty modes.
Since its release, Modern Warfare 2 has had a number of bugs and malfunctions, including one that appeared to allow players to quickly harvest weapon XP. However, like with many large games, especially those with a popular multiplayer component, these issues can take time to balance out and address, and balancing is a continuing effort. We’ll have to wait and see what Infinity Ward does about this specific “issue.”
