You’d think that after releasing a big magnum opus like Elden Ring, FromSoftware would be tempted to take a year or two (or three) off. But apparently not, because Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently informed Japanese site 4Gamer (via Gematsu) that the studio’s next game is in the “final stages” of production.
While he didn’t reveal anything about the game, one persistent rumor is that FromSoft is working on a new Armored Core game. In January, a supposed consumer poll revealed that Miyazaki is in charge of a new installment in the series, and subsequent leaked screens showed that work was well along.
Aside from that project, whatever it is, Miyazaki has supposedly already began development on his next game, as well as thinking farther ahead: In the “medium to long term,” he stated he’d “want to work on a more abstract fantasy than anything we’ve done before,” which is a crazy thing to conceive given Elden Ring’s surreal voyage through Heaven and Hell.
But it’s difficult to dispute with the logic: Miyakazi noted that throughout the creation of FromSoft’s past games, including Elden Ring, a lot of intriguing “ideas and visuals” were left on the cutting-room floor since they weren’t appropriate for the present project, and he’d want to do something with them.
