FromSoftware, the creator of Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is working on a new Armored Core game that promises to be hard and includes visceral mech-based gameplay. However, the makers of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon claim that their rebirth of the brand is more than just a “Soulsborne” game dressed up in heavy metal garb.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware, told IGN in an interview that his company is not attempting to steer Armored Core 6’s mechanics toward Soulsborne-style gameplay, which was established in 2009 by Demon’s Souls and refined over more than a decade through Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and, most recently, Elden Ring. Instead, According to Miyazaki, FromSoftware is “taking a hard look at the basic concept of Armored Key and what made that series distinctive,” as well as integrating its current game production expertise and “reexamining it together with the core notions of Armored Core.”
Masaru Yamamura, the director of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is in charge of the upcoming Armored Core, and he tells IGN that the samurai action game and Armored Core 6 “have the same essence of warfare such as aggressive, speed change, and action-oriented fighting.” Players will disrupt adversary mechs’ stance, allowing them to strike with critical strikes, he claimed.
Yamamura stated that Armored Core 6’s story mode would be mostly single-player, although there will be some multiplayer elements. Yamamura stated that the game’s highlight will be “dynamic and furious boss encounters.”
Last week at The Game Awards 2022, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco formally revealed their relaunch of the Armored Core franchise. However, the existence of Armored Core 6 had been revealed months before, with images and a game description promising a “third-person shooter mecha action title that lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique sci-fi world with dynamic mech action” and “fierce battles both long and short range using guns and blades.”
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be published in 2023 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
