On December 14, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release its next-generation update. While its improved graphics have been the free DLC’s standout feature, fans will also appreciate the game’s many unexpected content additions. The Witcher 3 was regarded as one of the most aesthetically striking games of its time when it was launched seven years ago. Though many games have now eclipsed The Witcher 3’s graphical miracles, the game is still stunning to look at, and the next-gen update will only improve this beauty further with updated textures, ray tracing, and FSL/DLSS compatibility.
Furthermore, the next-gen update includes various features from The Witcher on Netflix, such as the notorious Nilfgaardian armor from Season 1 as an alternative setting. Though Henry Cavill has left The Witcher series to reprise his role as Superman, gamers will be able to find Geralt’s famous Season 1 and Season 2 clothes in the upcoming update. Fans of Jaskier will also discover a show-inspired alternative design for their favorite Northern Kingdoms bard, albeit the lack of facial hair may be unnerving for some.
The next-gen update also includes a slew of community mods that vastly enhance the main game, including World Map Fixes, HDMR, Nitpicker’s Patch, Immersion and Gameplay Tweaks, and even HalkHogan’s The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project. The CD Projekt Red team is adding to this list with their own tiny adjustments, such as the addition of a Photo Mode, an alternate camera, rapid herb looting, and other user interface enhancements. Furthermore, the update includes new Chinese-inspired armor for Geralt, as well as two Korean-inspired swords – but the mechanism for acquiring them remains unknown at this moment.
When questioned about future updates to The Witcher 3, Weber was cautious to commit in either direction, saying that the team expected Blood and Wine would be the final DLC, but that the team was also completely dedicated to producing Project Polaris, the production name for the next Witcher epic. With The Witcher Remake on the way, it’s an exciting moment to be a Witcher fan.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will be available on December 14.
